Goals
In September 2006, three men set out to become the first humans in history to run coast to coast across the Sahara desert. Directed by Academy Award winner James Moll and Narrated and Executive Produced by Academy Award winner Matt Damon, Running the Sahara is a feature length documentary chronicling this historic expedition.

Sprawling over 3.5 million square miles, the Sahara is a mystical land, enchanting for its extreme beauty and its complex culture. At the same time, it may well be the most unforgiving place on earth -- the daytime heat and the freezing temperatures at night can suck the life from a body in an instant.

Most see the Sahara as only sand, but it has one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world. In fact, it has nine different ecosystems offering thousand foot sand dunes and lush oases. Plant and animal life thrive in places so desolate that survival seems impossible.

We cross six countries: Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Libya, and Egypt. As our travelers make their way from village to oasis to nomad settlement, the true stars of the film emerge: the people of the Sahara, as diverse as the regions they inhabit. Wherever possible, we accept the hospitality of the locals and gain insight into their lives and disparate heritages.

Running the Sahara is an epic documentary film, produced by LivePlanet, Allentown Productions and Independent Producers Alliance ("IPA"), which will appeal to audiences all over the world by introducing them to Africa - as you have never seen it before.
