Worldwide poverty is a daunting problem. It can make us feel hopeless in the face of great challenges. But we all are given opportunities to make a difference - one person, one family, one community at a time.
Our objective is to increase awareness of the African situation, empower people to action, and create sustainable alliances between people who want to help, the best organizations in the field to make it happen, and some of the amazing communities of Africa that have no clean water.
The combination of an expedition, a feature film and an integrated charitable initiative is unique. The expedition, sponsored by Magellan and National Geographic, is a classic "man-versus-nature quest." But even more important, it connects real people from different continents and cultures as the journey unfolds, revealing their joys and struggles without scripts or props.
The feature film, Running the Sahara, captures the people and the adventure, set against one of the world's most stunning ecological backdrops. It will transport viewers to Saharan Africa and bring them onto the historic trek themselves. Through this, the film's primary benefit is established: creating a messaging platform that engages people of all ages, but especially the up-and-coming generation.
The charitable initiative, The H2O Africa Foundation, was created concurrent with the film company to facilitate the legacy goals of the expedition and film. The participants and producers are acting on their desire to better the lives of the people in African communities without clean water, and helping others do the same.
Toward this end, the Running the Sahara team has set the goal of leaving a legacy of clean water wells in along their route - and in "clean water crisis zones" in Sub-Saharan Africa as well. Through our carefully selected NGO partners, we can do it! Find out more about how you can help
